First Age-4 Hike at Royal Arch, Boulder, CO

Approaching Flatirons - Hiking at Royal Arch, Boulder, CO

Much of the last six months has been spent with our newborn. Today, my daughter and I got back on the trail. It was my daughter’s first hike after having turned four and I was excited to see what she could do – she’s far more physical these days and bursting with energy. So we revisited Royal Arch, with aspirations of making the summit. Last fall we turned around after making it just a half mile in… Today was a strong effort. But after hiking for an hour and a half, she was ready to go down (part of me thinks this is because her favorite part of hiking is actually trail running descents, where according to MotionX-GPS we hit speeds of up to 7 MPH jumping off one rock to the next – the skin on her knees does not appreciate this though…). I didn’t realize until later when I saw the map how close we were to seeing the arch.
